The two rooms, that most home buyers look the closest at when shopping for a house, are the kitchen and bathrooms. If you are shopping for a home and find one you like, should you buy it if the bathrooms need work? Updating an outdated bathroom is a costly endeavor, but you may still want to proceed with buying a house even if the bathrooms need some work. Here are tips to help you negotiate on it.

Make Sure You Love Everything Else

Before you begin determining a plan to negotiate, you should make sure that you like the house enough to buy it with outdated bathrooms. Have you viewed a lot of other properties? Is this the one that stands out from all the others? Make sure you shop around enough to make sure that this is the right home for you.

Consider the Costs for Updating the Bathrooms

If you decide to go ahead with an offer on this home, you should consider the costs of updating the bathrooms. To find out the costs, talk to a local contractor that offers remodeling services. You can even ask the homeowner for another viewing, and you could take the contractor with you. If you cannot do this, present pictures of the bathrooms to the contractor. The contractor can then calculate bids for renovating these rooms.

As you are processing everything, look closely at the layouts of the bathrooms. While you can renovate a bathroom quite easily, you cannot change the layout of a bathroom without a lot of work.
