Sell Your Home Faster With These 3 Staging Tips

Capucine Leroux

If you want to get your home off the market fast, you need to make it as appealing to potential buyers as possible. Home staging is the art of arranging your home's décor and furniture in order to attract buyers. The right staging helps buyers envision themselves enjoying your home, which can encourage them to make an offer. Take a look at some home staging tips that will help your home sell faster.

Make Sure Every Space Has a Purpose

You don't want a lot of clutter around, but empty, blank spaces aren't a good idea either. If you have a space that's completely unused or that is collecting junk, transform it into a space with a purpose.

For example, a basement full of stored junk is a turnoff, but so is a completely bare basement. Put the boxes of holiday decorations or old baby clothes into storage, and drape some soft fabric on the walls. Cover the floor with some rubber padding and bring in some pillows and a yoga mat. You've just turned your basement into an enchanting yoga room.

Move the Furniture Away From the Walls

It's a common misconception that pushing the furniture against the wall makes the room feel larger by exposing more of the open floor. However, there's a better way to create the sensation of lots of space.

Instead of pushing the furniture to the wall, push it away from the wall, but group the furniture in the way that you would for a party or family game night – for example, you might have a couch on one side of the coffee table and two chairs on the other side. Make sure that there's a clear walkway through the room, but don't worry about leaving the middle of the floor open. This type of arrangement shows that the room can comfortably accommodate a group while leaving space to walk. That makes the room seem larger and more welcoming at the same time.

Choose Neutral Paint Colors

A new coat of paint can go a long way toward making your home look fresh and well cared-for. But stay away from unusual colors and bold accent walls, as these tend to deter some buyers.

Neutral colors, like tan or honey, are warm and inviting. But at the same time invite buyers to project their own sense of style onto the wall in ways that brighter and louder colors do not. This is especially important in large rooms, like the living room.

A good real estate agent can help you choose the staging techniques that will work best for your home. With a little careful preparation, buyers will be excited to make an offer on your home.
